A dear friend and I were having a conversation about illness, hereditary illness, genetics and the possibility of healing of our DNA. Coming from Native American perspective where entire nations and communities suffer from diabetes, heart disease and multi-generational trauma, it's a question I've long considered in my mind.

I made a radical statement that we, in our minds, could heal such things – our DNA. And the walls came up. I could feel the tension coming through her keyboard through the ethers and across to me. What the ble ** p was this lady talking about? Healing our DNA? How is it possible?

Coming from Native American perspective where entire nations and communities suffer from diabetes, heart disease and multi-generational trauma, it's a question I've long considered in my mind.

Is it possible to heal where ever our minds can go?

I know it causes all kinds of havoc in our minds but is it possible to heal anything with the power of our minds? With the research that quantum physics is finding about the power of the mind, is it possible to heal where ever our minds can go? Are there limits, actual hard defined limits or is it a matter of stretching the boundaries of our mind? Can we go into the genetic link that connects us to the past? Our DNA? Will it change the DNA we pass onto future generations? Is it one and the same? It really challenges our concepts of … well everything. It does mine, but I think it's worth it.

When we think of the “magic” of pharmaceuticals, we take this little pill, and it goes away. Our ancestors would have been in hysterics over it. Some of them at least. We know that many indigenous cultures practice mind healing techniques that have yet to be understood, but they've worked for thousands of years.

Our mind does not really have to understand what's in the pill or how that it really works. We do it and it works. I'm more of a naturalist and believe in the healing power of herbs and natural medicines, so I'm not advocating you go out and take more pills. What I'm trying to point out is our thinking … we know the pill will work. And we act as if it will. We do not get caught up in the confusion of what's behind it and we've conditioned our minds to just go with and allow it to work.

But when it comes to alternative healing or healing with the power of our minds it seems to overload our sense of order in this culture. We do not understand it so our brain goes in overdrive and we shut down. Now science and quantum physics is pushing us to open the envelope to our thinking about our bodies and the world we live in.

We've all seen miracles. People cure them selves of disease with guided imagery, visualizations, affirmations, herbs, faith and the power of the mind. Cured. Cancer gone. No need for the heart surgery Mr. Smith, it seems you're arterial block is .. clear! Some think of it as a fluke, once in a lifetime. Yet alternative health practitioners and many common people like myself believe that the power of the mind can be used to help heal. Quantum physics is showing that it can do much more than we can even imagine.

So here's the push … Do we think that a genetic disposition to heart disease can not be healed, because it took longer to make it happen? Or because something has existed for generations that it can not dissolve in a heart beat?

It's certainly something to consider. What would it mean to you, to the next generation if this kind of healing were possible? Is not it worth finding out? Is not it worth opening the envelope and at least reading the damn letter? For the future generations, I hope so.
